Most wedding ceremonies are followed by a wedding reception and that information needs to be included with your wedding invitations so your guests know all the details. To accomplish this, you have several choices.

VG7122H Wedding Reception CardsThe most obvious option is to include a wedding reception card as an insert with your invitation as pictured here. A typical reception card verse could read as follows:

Please join us
for Dinner and Reception
at TIME o’clock
LOCATION

Depending on how many inserts you may be including and the weight of the invitation itself, the weight of an additional card may require extra mailing postage.

There are also options for having your reception information printed directly on your invitations.

As shown on this wedding invitation style, the last two lines, aligned with the verse but slightly separated from it, reveal the reception details. This is perfectly acceptable if your chosen invitation style has enough room for the extra lines.

There is usually a small fee for a corner copy which can appear in the bottom left or right corner. In the style pictured here, it happens to be a left corner copy. Again, your chosen style needs to have room to accommodate a corner copy.

If you are looking for a simple but elegant design, you may want to consider a wedding invitation card on white or ecru (warm creamy beige) paper. Being a card, there are no folds and your printing appears on the front.

One type of card style is the panel design which is characterized by having the center section of the invitation “framed” by a raised area of paper around the outer edges. If you prefer, you can select an ink that reflects the color(s) of your wedding.

For a more contemporary look, your wedding invitation cards could feature a pearlized border design.

As discussed in our last post about Save the Dates, sending them is not required but they are a great way to announce your wedding date months ahead of time so guests can clear their schedule for your special day. Just a reminder that everyone who receives your Save the Date Cards must also receive your wedding invitation later.

Aside from asking your guests to ‘save the date’, it’s standard for them to include your names, wedding date and a phrase such as ‘wedding invitation to follow’.

If you have already decided on the location for your wedding, you may also include that information…not necessarily the specific address but maybe just the city.

Another nice touch as shown on this sample is to list your personal wedding website at the bottom so guests can go there for more information.

How about surprising your guests by sending them tickets to announce your ‘special’ event such as the ones pictured here.

Etiquette doesn’t require you send out save the dates to all or even some of your wedding guests, but it may be a nice touch since people’s schedules tend to be quite busy in today’s world. They would especially be appreciated by guests who may have to travel to your wedding destination or if your wedding date is close to a holiday.
